Google today debuted a new iOS app that brings the company’s search engine right to your iPhone’s keyboard.
Dubbed Gboard, the app allows you to search and send information or images from your keyboard, no matter what chat app you are using.
“Say you’re texting with a friend about tomorrow’s lunch plans. They ask you for the address,” reads a Google blog post. “Until now it’s worked like this: You leave your texting app. Open Search. Find the restaurant. Copy the address. Switch back to your texts. Paste the address into a message. And finally, hit send. Searching and sending stuff on your phone shouldn’t be that difficult.”
Using Gboard, you can search for addresses, restaurant info, flight times, news articles — pretty much anything you are interested in. Search results pop up as cards containing contact info and other key information. Then, with the tap of a finger, you can send it to your friend without having to leave the conversation.
You can also search and send emojis and GIFs
“Instead of scrolling to find or , search for “dancer” and find that emoji you were looking for instantly,” the blog post reads. “Even better—you can search for the perfect GIF to show people how you’re really feeling.”
Another time-saving feature is Gboard’s Glide Typing, permitting you to type words by sliding your finger from key to key rather than tapping.
Gboard works in any app—messaging, e-mail, YouTube— and is available in the App Store for U.S. users who speak English. Google said there are many more languages to come.
