EPIF to be Held in Taiwan for the First Time in 2014

Feb 27, 2014

The Eco-Products International Fair (EPIF) will be held in Taiwan for the first time from March 13 to 16, 2014, at Exhibition Hall 1, the Taipei World Trade Center, and the Taipei International Convention Center. On October 31, 2013, representatives from industry and government, including Epson Taiwan, Kao Taiwan, Pacific FR3SH of the Pacific Group, the Environmental Protection Administration, Industrial Development Bureau (MOEA), Taipei City Government, and New Taipei City Government, joined to announce their participation in EPIF 2014. Organized annually by different Asian Productivity Organization (APO) members since 2004, EPIF is one of the most established international environmental exhibitions in the Asia-Pacific region.

“According to the report released this May by the United Nations Environment Programme, the world’s market for the low-carbon and resource-efficient industry is estimated to triple in size and reach USD 2.2 trillion by 2020,” said Mr. Walter M. S. Yeh, Executive Vice President of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). Holding EPIF 2014 in Taiwan will provide businesses with many opportunities for seizing green business opportunities and for exploring partnerships with companies from 19 APO member countries, as well as offering government agencies an international platform to showcase their effort in encouraging citizens to adopt green lifestyle. Mr. Yeh further indicated that EPIF 2014 would be the first exhibition in Taiwan to implement the ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System, to further promote sustainable events.
EPIF 2014 is organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and implemented jointly by TAITRA, Green Trade Project Office, MOEA, and the China Productivity Center. APO has selected Taiwan to host EPIF 2014, in recognition of the development of green industry in Taiwan. In 2012, Taiwan’s export of green products has accounted for 13.5% of Taiwan’s total export, reaching USD 40.5 billion in value. Compared to USD 31 billion in 2009, Taiwan’s exports of green products have achieved significant growth of more than 30%.
Mr. Kazuyuki Sakai, representative of APO, also stated that the 2014 EPIF would promote exchanges and cooperation in environmental technology, management, and innovation between Japan and Taiwan, as well as to encourage greening of the supply chain and to increase green competitiveness of the manufacturing industry across Asia.
